Accounting Manager- Missouri Athletic Club DOWNTOWN

The MAC has been thriving since 1903 and remains committed to the vision of the original founders: "to be the premier athletic, social and dining club for business, professional and civic leaders and their families in the Saint Louis area." 

The MAC is in search of a self-directed and experienced Accounting Manager to work full time at our downtown location.  Working under the direction of the CFO, the Accounting Manager supervises accounting staff and oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of the club, including accounts receivable and billing, accounts payable, inventory, payroll, and fixed assets.  The Accounting Manager produces financial statements and other financial reports for the club and its subsidiaries, with an emphasis on accuracy and relevance.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for the club's accounting systems and adherence to internal control policies.

Responsibilities and Duties


  • Supervise, train, and review the work of five accounting employees in the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and payroll; provide leadership and support
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure cross-training
  • Establish/maintain close schedule to ensure timely completion of all accounting duties/reporting
  • Review general ledger to ensure accuracy and prepare various account reconciliations
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare financial statements and various other reports on a timely basis
  • Collect, analyze and summarize financial information and trends; analyze variances
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports as needed for CFO, CEO, and others
  • Maintain fixed assets records
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and timely filing of related tax returns
  • Administer accounting policies and internal controls; suggest enhancements to internal controls in accordance with the club's policies, within GAAP
  • Maintain detailed records to document financial transactions; ensure accuracy in all areas
  • Develop club budgets and related schedules
  • Keep abreast of 501(c)7 accounting and tax trends; attend educational seminars/webinars
  • Coordinate annual external audit and preparation of audited consolidated financial statements and corporate tax returns


Education, Experience, and other Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including management of all accounting functions, financial statement preparation, and budgeting, with 3+ years supervising accounting personnel
  • Self-motivated and self-directed; ability to work independently under deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work closely with others
  • Confidentiality and ethical conduct required; ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment

Experience with Jonas Management System and knowledge of 501(c)7 accounting and tax regulations a plus
